The Internal Medicine Practitioner Deals With Whatever Problem A Patient Brings

Internal medicine deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult disease. Medical malpractice litigation involving internal medicine physicians can involve a wide range of clinical issues.  In the news, a Tulsa, OK,  doctor who operates a cosmetic surgery center had her state medical license suspended for a year following allegations of unprofessional conduct involving cosmetic procedures. Her state board record states that Dr. Leslie Ann Masters’ medical license is suspended for gross negligence and failure to maintain records. Several patients saw Masters for liposuction and fat transplant procedures. The board states that one patient died during a liposuction procedure. Another patient had fat removed from her body and was told to take it home and freeze it.  Masters later injected the fat into the woman’s face.  The patient said this process resulted in a serious infection.

The Oklahoma medical board charged Masters with behavior making her unfit to practice medicine including the failure to provide a safe medical facility for her patients. There is a lack of documentation showing that her medical assistants were licensed as health professionals. She is now restricted from performing certain surgical procedures and not allowed t0 dispense prescription medications. The board fined her $25K.
