Dental Expert Witness Specialties FAQ
Are dental specialists certified by the same boards as physicians?
No. Dental specialties follow separate accreditation and specialty-certification pathways. We evaluate licensure, training, recognized specialty status where applicable, and current clinical practice rather than applying physician ABMS criteria to dentists.
Which dental specialties do you cover?
We cover General Dentistry and the full spectrum of dental specialties, including Endodontics, Orthodontics, Periodontics, Prosthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry, Dental Anesthesiology, Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Our physician-led case strategy team identifies, interviews, and hand-selects experts whose training, credentials, and current clinical practice directly match the issues in dispute. We recognize the distinct training and certification pathways across dental Specialties, including Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons who may hold dental degrees (DDS or DMD) alone or in combination with a medical degree (MD).
Do you have dental experts for nerve injury cases?
Yes. We identify qualified dental specialists to assess lingual, inferior alveolar, or other nerve injuries associated with extractions, implants, endodontic treatment, or injections. Neurology or other medical expertise may be needed to evaluate the injury’s localization, persistence, and causation.
Can you provide medical and dental experts on the same case?
Yes. Complex cases frequently involve more than one Specialty, and matters involving both medical and dental issues are a classic example. Depending on the allegations, these cases may require experts in General Dentistry, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Neurology, Infectious Disease, Plastic Surgery, Psychiatry, or other relevant disciplines. Our physician-led case strategy team evaluates the medical and legal issues, identifies the appropriate Specialties, and hand-selects experts with complementary qualifications to address standard of care, causation, and damages. This coordinated approach ensures comprehensive expert coverage without unnecessary duplication or gaps in testimony.
Do you provide dental expert witnesses for both plaintiff and defense attorneys?
Yes. Our physician-led case strategy team works with both plaintiff and defense counsel to identify, interview, rigorously vet, and hand-select dental experts whose qualifications and clinical experience precisely match the issues in dispute. Every candidate is evaluated for appropriate licensure, board certification where applicable, specialty training, active clinical practice, professional standing, and case-specific expertise. We apply the same rigorous selection standards to every engagement, ensuring that counsel receives an exceptionally qualified, independent expert aligned with the medical, dental, and legal issues of the case.
What is expert dental testimony, and when is a dentist called as an expert witness?
A dental expert analyzes dental records, radiographs, examinations, treatment choices, and outcomes to explain accepted care and any medically supported causal relationship. Such experts assist in dental malpractice, trauma, implant, nerve injury, and other oral-health litigation.
Which dental expert witness should I retain for a standard of care dispute?
The appropriate dental expert ordinarily practices in the same clinical discipline as the care under review, such as General Dentistry, Endodontics, Periodontics, or Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. We also assess the jurisdiction’s expert-qualification rules and distinguish standard-of-care testimony from separate causation questions.
